ABOUT THIS PROJECT
In 2010, SEARCH+RESQ collaborated with Crimson Society to create an installation for the Coachella Music and Arts Festival. The project Ascension, also known as “Coco”, is a 150 feet wide and 45 feet tall origami crane crafted from soaring planes of white fabric and aluminum truss and tension wire skeleton. Her wingspan is roughly the size of a Boeing 747. The aluminum structure is modular, making the crane a temporary installation and completely mobile which can be assembled on almost any flat site. The 100+ components and over 7000 square foot of 80% mesh Textilene sunshade material, which make up the crane, can be dismantled and shipped in one 40 feet shipping container to a new site anywhere around the globe. Several months after Coachella, Coco was transported to Mexico City and remembered for NBC Universal for the launch of their Latin Sci-Fi channel in 2010.
